Methoni Castle
The castle of Methoni was built in the 13th century by the Venetians and is one of the most majestic castles of Greece and one of the largest in the Mediterranean.
It occupies the entire area of the southwestern coastal point and at the southern edge of the castle towards the sea, the pathway leads to the embattled island, Bourtzi, with multiple terraces and turrets.
The church of Metamorphosis of Sotiros, the column of Morozini, storages, abandoned Byzantium temples of Saint Sophia, abandoned Turkish baths and buildings all exist within the area of the castle. Because of its location, many nations attempted to conquer it such as the Franks, Venetians and Ottomans.
Important sights of the area is the Syggrou Square of which operates as a cultural center, the monument of the Unknown Soldier at Eleftheria Square, the Churches of Saint Nicholas and Saint George, the Venetian well as well as the cave of Saint Onoufrius
